This page contains various photos of deteriorating shingles and other things that should be of interest to you.

This is a photo I took in December, 2016 in Montrose, CA. It was on top of my friend Russ’s home. These shingles were put on the home in 1965. If you’re not good at math, that means these shingles have been exposed to the harsh southern California sun for fifty-two years. As you can see very few colored granules are missing and the shingles are not curled. These shingles get no shade whatsoever and the roof pitch is low, approximately 3:12. This is, perhaps, the worst roof I saw in central New Hampshire. This photo was taken in 2016 at the business condo complex of my dentist in Gilford, New Hampshire. You can see how badly the shingles are curled and how they’ve started to delaminate. Copyright 2017 Tim Carter ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
This is a fascinating photo taken on a cold winter day in early 2016 on Route 106 that runs between Meredith and Laconia, New Hampshire. This is Inselstone on a small one-car garage. This wall faces south and gets punishing sun. You can see where many of the granules have fallen off revealing the asphalt-saturated wood fiberboard beneath. It’s possible this material was installed on this building before World War II. Inselstone was first made in 1931 and continued to be available until the mid 1960s. Here’s a photo of a house on Dow Road in Meredith, New Hampshire. I took this photo in late 2016. There are two separate types of asphalt material on this house. Both are in remarkable condition. The material on the side wall of the door entry faces south. The window wall faces west. While they don’t get the worst ultraviolet rays and heat from the sun, this material is in very good condition for being over fifty, or more, years old. Here’s the garage at the Dow Road house in Meredith, New Hampshire. The front wall where the main garage door is faces south. The long wall with the window and man door faces east. Look how good the material looks considering it could be sixty, or more, years old. Copyright 2017 Tim Carter ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

This roof is on a giant former church that’s now a youth center in Laconia, New Hampshire. It’s just north of the main Laconia Fire Department building. The roof was replaced in the late fall of 2016 before the Roofing Ripoff book was published. Copyright 2017 Tim Carter ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
